Robert Martino

Inspired by some of hip hop’s most treasured rappers, Robert Martino has created “The Return of the King,” an album worthy to be called a classic.

Robert David Martino known to the music industry as Robert Martino aka “The Young Al Capone,” is one of hip hop’s finest lyricists hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. Spending his childhood years in Natick, Massachusetts he attended and graduated from Natick high school in 2016. During his come up into adolescence, his gravitation to music saw a love for the hip hop sound, more specifically that of artists from the 90s. Robert Martino was inspired by the lyrical level of rhyming displayed by an impressive list of emcees including The Notorious B.I.G, Nas, Jay-Z, Big L, Herb McGruff, Jaz-O, MF DOOM, Joey BADA$$, Logic, Eminem, Black Thought, Jay-Z, Action Bronson, and Kendrick Lamar.

That passion for hip hop grew deeper upon discovery of Logic’s “Young Sinatra” mixtapes. Combine the feeling of invulnerability he felt while listening to the tracks together with the heartbreak he experienced from a past lover after their relationship ended, and music became his counselor, confidant, and therapist. Initially, his reason for stepping in the booth was to create love songs to express his emotions in hopes of winning back the heart that made him feel whole. That process developed a love for songwriting, and Robert Martino evolved into one hell of an Emcee. When he hit that studio, all anxiety turned into unwavering confidence to hold this world in the palm of his hands. Robert Martino wasn’t his past self, but a new man, one unbreakable, unmovable – a version of himself that was created within his music.

Robert Martino aimed to further his education alongside music and spent a couple years at UMaine before realizing music wasn’t a hobby, but something he wanted to dedicate every time of every day making. He would drop out to do just that. With his energy solely focused on music, he took 2 years to zone in on creating his latest album, “The Return of the King.” The album cover reflected the black and white concept of Logic’s “Young Sinatra” mixtapes over a picture of his grandparents at their wedding. The concept of the album was a culmination of varying factors, one being the essence of classic albums by rappers that influenced him to pick up the pen and gangster movies like Scarface, The Godfather, Donnie Brasco, Legend, and A Bronx Tale. Robert Martino wanted to create something whose sound was rooted in the 90s era of the rap game; raw, unfiltered, gritty, and grimy, and it’s safe to say after listening to the project, Robert Martino more than achieved that end. He’s earned the praises that the album has received. The level of lyricism and untamed energy in every track takes your mind to a place that hip hop has long lost. There’s no antics or props to cover the lack of rap skills like many other rappers in the game. Robert Martino has no need for any gimmicks because he is the real deal. “The Return of the King” came with receipts to back up his talent on the mic.

Robert Martino wants to revive the lyrical and passionate aspect of hip hop, to go down as one of the greatest rappers to ever spit in the booth. With “The Return of the King,” there’s no question as to if he deserves to be given credit for achieving those aspirations, because he’s everything hip hop was meant to be. Robert Martino just released a masterpiece and is already back in the lab working on its sequel. Check out the Emcee online and stream his album, “The Return of the King” to hear real hip hop.
